6 fad diets to stop doing and why they will never work || Dunnebells

In this era of hyper-conscious fitness people, fad diets have taken a front seat. Fad diets are the diet routines that promise to yield quick results by following a certain kind of restriction on your eating habits. They are never marketed this way though, so we fall victim to trying them out for a few months. Their craze comes and goes swiftly, and there are multiple weight loss programs plans that people opt for. Let's have a look at the most popular fad diets and how they work (or don’t work).

To give this article some context, I have tried every single one of these fad diets while I was on my weight-my 8 Week Weight Loss Program journey to lose 65lbs. You can read more about my transformation story by clicking here.

6 FAD DIETS TO STOP

1. THE KETO DIET

The keto diet or ‘ketogenic’ diet is a high-fat and low-carb diet that revolves around the idea of cutting down on carbohydrates. Also, consuming more protein and fat is the main aim of the diet. This reduction of intake of easy to digest carbs like sugar, soda, or white bread puts the body into a metabolic state called ketosis. In 3-4 days, the body runs out of the fuel or blood sugar and starts breaking down fat and protein to provide energy. It takes more calories to convert fat into energy as compared to carbs, which in turn can help you lose weight. As someone who tried the Keto diet a number of times, I can tell you that it works to drop some pounds. I would be able to lose 20, maybe 30 lbs from following the Keto diet but I also had no life. I wasn’t able to go out with friends for dinner or drinks, vacation food was really hard and I would always fail on this diet because it wasn’t sustainable.

2. LEMON DETOX DIET

The ‘Master Cleanse’ or the lemon diet is known as one that made Beyonce lose about 20 pounds in 2 weeks. This quick weight loss diet plan spans across 14 days, during which any consumption of solid food is restricted. All you can have is the lemon detox drink prepared with seawater flush and lemonade. Drinking at least 2 litres of this drink every day helps remove any free radicals or toxins in the body. This is along with clearing the digestive tract, increasing metabolism rate, and can help to eliminate excess fat.  If you take nothing else from this article, my recommendation is to never . do a detox or a cleanse again to get lean and mean body. Simply drink some more water, increase your fibre intake and give it some time.

3. THE PALEO DIET

The paleo diet is a diet inspired by our ancestors of the Palaeolithic era. It aims at achieving the disease-free lifestyle of the hunter-gatherers. That is, by leading physically active lives and consuming whole foods. Avoiding processed food like soft-drinks, artificial sweeteners, trans fat, and eating items like fish, meat, nuts, fresh vegetables, and fruits. At the same time, being physically active and following the paleo fat loss diet plan for female can help in major health improvements and significant weight loss. You can learn more about my views around following and getting results while following the paleo diet by clicking here.

4. THE WHOLE30 DIET

Whole30 started in 2009 after the co-founder of the company experimented by eliminating anti-inflammatory foods. She did it for 30 days from her diet and discovered she was more energetic and focussed at work. Also, she had better sleep and was happier in general. The Whole30 plan means you have to remove all added sugars, fake or real from your diet. You can eat 'real' foods like vegetables, fruits, seafood, eggs, meat, natural fats, and black tea or coffee. This diet isn't focused on 8 Week Weight Loss Training Program but a healthier, better lifestyle which is one of the benefits, however, in my opinion, this quick weight loss diet plan is still fairly restrictive and can be maintained for a short amount of time but not for the long term results.

5. THE CABBAGE SOUP DIET

One of my least favourite because I tried and failed this diet so many times. The cabbage soup diet is a rigid low-fat diet that demands you to have just soups of cabbage and some other permitted vegetables, as the name suggests. The benefits of this “quick weight loss diet plan” are that everyone claims you can just drink the soup without exercising to see results (because you have no fuel in your body). The people who do this diet are the ones looking for a quick fix for an upcoming event or to kickstart Weight Loss Programs. I do not recommend this diet.

6. THE BABY FOOD DIET

This fat loss diet plan for female too was popularised by Hollywood influence when Jennifer Aniston followed it to lose 7 pounds in a week. It requires you to eat 14 containers of baby food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, along with a regular dinner for three days. This replacement will cut down your calorie intake per day and aid in short-term weight loss. Following a quick weight loss diet plan like this for a few days won’t cause you long term harm, but this diet lacks so many nutrients that to consider this for the long run is not something I would recommend. I was hungriest on this diet out of all of the 6 fad diets during my 8 Week Weight Loss Workout Program.

THE BOTTOM LINE ON FAD DIETS

As mentioned previously, fad diets may work short term in your 8 Week Body Transformation Program, but that is exactly what they are. Short term fixes for an underlying issue. With small amounts of weight loss exercise and a more balanced nutrition plan (including cookies, cake, ice cream, burgers and beer) you can still achieve the results you want an in my opinion that is a better way to get there than any of these fad diets!
