How To Start Next Year Fighting Fit

In the midst of every festive season is the promise of a fresh new year ahead. And, while you’re enjoying all that extra time and celebrations with your loved ones; it can often be a chance to reflect on the past 12 or so months, and to think and your hopes and dreams for next year. Self-reflection is always a positive thing; it’s a chance to better understand yourself, learn from any experiences, and implement changes that will help you emotionally grow, and find strength in positive areas of life.

One of the areas that can sometimes be pushed aside a little at this time of year, is physical fitness, health, and well-being. It’s totally understandable; there’s already so much to do, and Christmas is a time to rest, indulge, and treat yourself and others with care and kindness. However, you don’t want to be plodding into the new year feeling lethargic and unwell; keeping active and healthy is the best way to treat yourself and to ensure that you can skip through January, building inner and outer strength. The following are some ideas on where to start.

When It’s Too Cold To Go OuT

If you’re already thinking about how you’re going to squeeze in a trip to the gym, amidst such a busy festive season, and with plans, building-up in the new year; don’t worry. There are plenty of ways to increase your activity and fitness within the comfort of your own home. Take a look at places online like HOTWORX and Dunnebells where you can choose from a variety of fun workouts. There’ll be no stress about what to wear; you won’t even need sneakers! Just get your laptop or tablet out, throw on your comfy clothes, and get moving; all those happy hormones will give you a huge mood boost.

When You Need Some Fresh Air

If the thought of staying inside watching Hallmark movies any longer is too much to bear; it’s time to grab your sneakers and head outside. Give yourself a set time each day to walk, jog, or go running in your local park, on the beach, or around your local neighbourhood. This will not only increase your physical strength and fitness; it’s a great way to clear your head and be mindful and present in that moment. With so many distractions in life, especially online; it’s always good to take a complete break from it all, for better clarity and peace of mind.

When New Friends Are The Aim

Whether you prefer an indoor workout or doing your exercise outside; joining a group or a class is an excellent way to meet new people, and hopefully, make some friends. Making friends while exercising is the perfect way to keep your momentum, especially after a tiring Holiday season! You can encourage each other, and work out together between classes; there’s no harm in heading for a coffee to catch up afterwards either. Take a look around your local area and on community social media pages to see if there are any boot camps or classes that you can start as soon as the new year does.
